News & Views Podcast | Episode 164: Spending Trackers & Financial Education in UAE

On this week’s episode of News & Views, The Fintech Times Podcast team speak about UK-based finance app Cheddar launching its free spend tracker, offering users deeper insight into their spending habits and why there is a desire for more comprehensive financial education from UAE retail investors, according to a new study by trading and investing platform eToro.

Down a member again, unfortunately, this week’s episode saw Tom and Francis delve into the world of savings and financial education. The duo began by exploring how Cheddar’s new spending tracker would impact the UK fintech scene. While they both agreed the launch wasn’t revolutionary, Tom noted that a 97 per cent success rate in identifying spend would be incredibly impactful.

Following this, the duo discussed which persons should be more responsible for teaching users about investment and financial education. Both Tom and Francis agreed that it was surprising that more investors didn’t hold schools accountable for teaching financial education.

Sharing similar viewpoints again, the duo agreed that banks and financial institutions should bear the weight for the majority of financial education, although Francis did not expect to see investors putting almost as much responsibility on the users themselves.
